“The best approach to a society is to retain one’s playful way of dealing with its masks.”

take:that II — picture postcard series
This action continues the “take:that” picture postcard series jointly produced by rewalk and Integrationshaus. The participants of “take:that II” are residents of Integrationshaus. In a media-pedagogic action, the participants were able to select costumes from the stocks of Kostümhaus Wien and wear them in subsequent photo-shooting sessions. The results were jointly assessed and individual pictures selected for the postcards. Together with the texts written by the protagonists, this material resulted in the total postcard motifs.

The project’s objective is to strengthen the participants’ identities through a participatory approach. by producing something that primarily benefits themselves and their own self-appreciation. Experience has shown that the participants deal with this topic in a proud and playful way. This cultural exchange is passed on both within their own community and to external actors.

DVD “Sindbad — ein Jahr auf hoher See”
“Sindbad — ein Jahr auf hoher See” (German with English sub-titles) is a participatory video documentation produced by the participants of the EQUAL project EPIMA under the guidance of Paul Weihs/rewalk.net. The DVD describes the initial situation of the young asylum seekers and their subsequent experiences in the project: language acquisition, basic education, IT training, social sciences and vocational training.

The participants are also shown doing practical work on trial days in companies and talk about their wishes and ideas for their future in Austria. The appealing photos included in the DVD’s booklet were produced by the young people themselves in a workshop on photography and picture editing and provided with comments, such as:
„I am Rihana. I’m from Ethiopia. I’m 18 years old. I have learned a lot in this project. Mathematics, English, German, work experience, all learned in this project.” The design of the DVD was supported by the project “Event organisation and technology” implemented by WUK – Verein zur Schaffung offener Kultur- und Werkstättenhäuser.
